The Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) is one of Germany’s youngest and most successful universities with a strong international orientation aiming at excellence at the national and international level in its strategic research fields.
At the interface of engineering and economics, the Institute of Logistics and General Management (LogU) carries on application-oriented research and teaching in the areas of logistics, supply chain management and business management. The goal is to develop scientifically founded and practically realizable concepts through interdisciplinary research cooperations, as well as through intense collaboration and networking with manufacturing enterprises and service providers.
The Institute of Logistics and General Management focuses on the following research areas:
The research team of project leader Prof. Dr. Thorsten Blecker works intensively on projects concerning supply chain security, especially focusing on security issues in maritime supply chains. Research associates Thomas Will and Niclas Jepsen will work on the project and student assistants will support the research team.
The main goal of the sub-project conducted by TUHH is to carry out a detailed analysis of available technologies contributing to security in order to give recommendations for future actions.
Therefore, TUHH will identify available technologies which increase maritime security, like RFID/eSeal and GPS. The technologies’ capabilities to minimize damages caused by maritime security threats and their applicability in logistics and supply chains considering organizational, structural and human resource issues will be analyzed. Cost-benefit-analysis and feasibility studies will also be carried out. In addition, future trends and developments as well as demands and expectations of the industry will also be investigated by consulting experts and in the course of workshops. As an outcome, suitable technical and technological security solutions should be proposed and a catalogue of measures should be presented in form of a security manual.
